10 Odd Things I Never Thought I’d Use AI For

10 Odd Things I Never Thought I’d Use AI For...But Here We Are
If you’d told me I’d be using AI daily-not just for work, but for life admin - I’d have laughed, closed my 57 open tabs, and carried on with my caffeine-fueled chaos. But here we are, and AI has quietly taken part in everyday moments that I never saw coming. So, in the spirit of embracing the unexpected, here are 10 things I never thought I’d use AI for… but totally do.
- Figuring Out What’s for Dinner 🍽️
Decision fatigue is real. There’s only so many times I can stare at my fridge, hoping inspiration will strike. Now, AI takes the mystery box challenge approach - “You’ve got eggs, half a capsicum, and a questionable bag of spinach… here’s what you can make.” Bonus points for suggesting minimal effort meals.
- Deciphering a Pet X-ray and Vet Notes 🐾
Ever had a vet explain something and nod along while internally panicking? Same. I uploaded the vet’s notes and an X-ray, and AI broke it down into plain English-no medical jargon, no confusion. Just, “Your dog’s fine, just swallowed something ridiculous (again).”
- Finding Actually Helpful YouTube Math Videos 📚
I’m not saying I forgot how to do long division, but let’s just say after being asked a curly homework question, I suddenly needed a refresher. Instead of wading through terrible videos, AI pulled up the best links to Youtube explanations that actually made sense.
- Diagnosing My Dying Plants 🪴
I am not a plant whisperer. AI, however, is pretty close. I took photos of my sad-looking plants, and it identified the issue, gave me a care plan, and saved my poor succulents from mealybug doom.
-
Working Out Why My Car Wouldn’t Start (While I Waited for Road Side Assist) 🚗 Because nothing builds character like being stuck in a car park, staring at a dashboard of mysterious warning lights. AI walked me through troubleshooting steps, suggested possible causes, and (shockingly) was right about the battery being the culprit.
-
Figuring Out If That Email Was Legit or a Scam ✉️
Gone are the days of squinting at dodgy-looking emails, wondering if I’m about to get hacked. AI can scan an email, check for scam markers, and even compare it to known phishing attempts. No more paranoia.
- Quizzing Me on Things I’m Learning 🧠
Learning something new? AI makes a fantastic study buddy. Whether it’s testing me on AI concepts, business strategies, or just helping me retain information before a big meeting, it turns dry facts into fun quizzes.
- Finding Alternatives to Everything (Broadband, Phone Plans, Insurance, You Name It) 💰
I used to spend way too much time manually comparing providers. Now, AI finds the best alternatives based on my needs, whether it’s broadband, a mobile plan, or figuring out which streaming service has the least annoying subscription model.
- Keeping Track of Gift Ideas 🎁
Between birthdays, Christmas, and those “Oh crap, I forgot” moments, AI has saved me so many last-minute panic buys. I just jot down ideas throughout the year, and it reminds me when it’s time to actually buy something and finds me the things!!!
- Auto-Scheduling My Chaos 📅
Between meetings, appointments, school events, and that thing I said yes to but forgot what it was-AI nudges me before I double-book myself and makes sure I actually show up where I’m supposed to be.
AI Isn’t Magic, But It’s Definitely Handy
Is AI perfect? Nope. It still can’t pack school lunches, clean the house, or stop my dog from eating weird things off the floor. But it’s quietly making life easier in so many little ways-saving time, reducing stress, and stopping me from making terrible decisions (like signing up for another subscription I’ll forget about).
What about you? What’s the most unexpected way you’ve used AI? Drop it in the comments-I need to know if I’m the only one using AI as a plant doctor and scam detector. 😆
